GCAG Plein Air Workshop November 12th
Award winning plain air artist, Jeffrey Bowers, will be offering an acrylic plein air workshop. Register asap to hold your space for this 4 hour event. We have room for ten artists. The fee is $50.00.
Where and When:
Martha Rivers Park – Neal Hawkins Rd. Gastonia NC (covered area)
9am -1pm Saturday, November 12, 2022
Technique- Alla prima, one sitting, painterly, and fast paced.
Styles - impressionist, painterly oil style (using acrylic paint)
What you will need to bring:
- your favorite pochade box or easel setup, water based brush cleaning bucket, water, paper towels, recommended flat bristle brushes and nylon brushes, palette knife, palette for acrylics (paper palette, plastic, glass, easy to clean or toss) viewfinder.
Canvas panels/ stretched canvas – any size and style you are comfortable with.
Paint brands – Winsor Newton acrylics will be provided to use.
What we will cover:
Working with acrylic- how to apply paint, how much water to use, cleaning brushes, amount of paint on palette, hard and soft edges plus much more.
Pros and cons of acrylics– how to make the best of acrylic paint, and recommended brands.
- -two colors (umber and white) basic block in, very fast paced, messy and exciting. No stress! Lots of fun!
- - mixing colors, matching natural colors, light and shadow, keeping colors clean.
- - your will learn how much detail, where to place the detail, and when to stop.
- – Varnishing: What kind, how much to use, how long to let painting dry before applying the varnish

I hour of critiquing/review/Q and A
